This is not the correct time for me to enter politics: Vijay

This is not the correct time for me to enter politics: Vijay
Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay has once again proved that he is the ‘King of Openings.’ Though his recently-released film Kaavalan faced myriad problems till it hit theatres, the superstar has triumphed over all obstacles and the film has been declared a hit at the box-office.
The actor speaks to DC in an exclusive interview…
* Do you think there were some vested interests who intended to sabotage the release of Kaavalan? Were the difficulties politically motivated?
Undoubtedly, some miscreants were active behind the scenes to see that the film did not get released on the festive Pongal day. Everyone knows that problems do crop up during any big film’s release. These are glitches which are within our control and can be sorted out. But the kind of major hurdles which came up pre-Kaavalan’s release, were something which I have not encountered in my career spanning more than fifty films. It was a new experience for me.
* We hear that you gave up a huge sum of money from your remuneration to ensure that the film was released.
Money does not matter to me. I have done it in the past! But in Kaavalan’s case I had made a commitment to my fans that the film would release on time.
Still, it was sad that it could not make it to theaters on January 14.
* Despite all the difficulties, the film got a tremendous opening. Comment.
I should thank my fans for the support they gave me all through my troubled times. They have made the film a success. I am happy the movie is running well in 350 theaters across the state. People have received the film well. I must also thank Siddique for giving me such a good film. Today I have forgotten all that I went through. It has given me a new energy and vigour.
* After this, will you balance between films with a realistic approach like Kaavalan and fulfledged masala movies?
Yeah, I have decided to do that. My next, Velayudham, is a commercial film but with logic. I have two heroines, Genelia and Hansika and with a producer like Aascar Ravichandran, the movie is shaping extremely well. Raja is a dedicated director and after this film, I am sure all the big heroes will vie to act under his direction.
* Your dad S.A. Chandrashekar met AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa. Can we take it as a prelude for you to enter politics?
(Smiles) There is no such motivation. Lots of people don’t get the opportunity to meet big leaders. My father got one and it was just a courtesy call he made. Like I met Rahul Gandhi last year in Delhi!
I really want to do something for the people. But this is not the correct time for me to enter politics. Time has brought me as an actor today, and the same time will bring me to politics one day.
* Will you campaign for Jayalalitha during the forthcoming elections?
I don’t think so. I haven’t decided.
l It was rumored that you had a difference of opinion with Shankar and opted out of the 3 Idiots remake.
When I decide to do a film with Shankar, I will do it knowing what kind of a filmmaker he is and go there anticipating the kind of things he would expect from me.
So, no question of difference of opinion. It was for purely professional reasons that I could not dole out dates as I was working in Velayudham.

Vijay feels relieved

Vijay is a happy man now as the uncertainity over ‘Kavalan’ was put to an end on Pongal day when the film hit the screens all over the world, much to the celebration of his fans.
“It was only because of Vijay the movie managed to see the light of the day. He wanted his fans not to get disappointed and finally stepped in to ensure the release of Kavalan,” sources in the know say.
Saying that the actor gave some assurances to all those who had opposed the film’s release, sources add only after certain promises from Vijay they had withdrawn their opposition to ‘Kavalan’.
“Vijay is also happy that his fans enjoyed the film, which showed him in a different light,” sources add. Directed by Siddique, ‘Kavalan’, a remake of Malayalam hit ‘Bodyguard’, has Asin and Vadivelu in pivotal roles.

'Kavalan' in 350 theatres

Vijay would have never dreamt of the obstacles he had faced before getting his 'Kavalan' out to the theatres. The good news is that Vijay has cleared all of them with great conviction and releasing 'Kavalan' in 350 theatres. Technology has come to his aid largely as almost 99 percent of the theatres screening 'Kavalan' are equipped with QUBE system. This is said to have rudely shocked the forces which were working against the release of the film.
Sources say Vijay was ready to make any kind of sacrifice to release 'Kavalan' as scheduled and he has succeeded in a big way. Of all the big releases on Pongal, 'Kavalan' has got the maximum number of screens, there by proving a point.
After 'Kavalan', Karthi's 'Siruthai' is being screened in around 300 theatres and then comes 'Aadukalam'. The Dhanush film is promoted as an arty commercial film and it has got approximately 200 screens. Pa. Vijay's much hyped 'Ilaignan' will grace around 100 theatres.
Now that all the films are releasing as scheduled, begin your Pongal celebrations starting with your favourite film.

KAVALAN MOVIE PREVIEW

Starring: Vijay, Asin, Rajkiran, Vadivelu
Direction: Siddique
Music: Vidyasagar
Production: C. Ramesh Babu

After facing a series of obstacles, Kavalan is finally set to hit screens this Pongal much to the delight of Vijay's fans. Kavalan, a remake of Malayalam movie Bodyguard, is directed by Siddique and produced by C Ramesh Babu. The film was first titled Kaavalkaran and then named Kaaval Kadhal and finally given the name Kavalan.

Kavalan is about a youngster Arun who aspires to be

a bodyguard of powerful people in the state. He finally manages to become the bodyguard of Rajkiran and his daughter Asin, who is a college student. The film will have bright and funny moments with an unexpected twist towards the end. As Vijay's fans expect, this movie promises to be a clean entertainer as is evident in the movie's trailer.

Siddique, the director of the Malayalam version as well, has remade this film with elements suiting the tastes of Tamil audience. Siddique had earlier directed Vijay in Friends which is also a remake of a Malayalam film. Vijay can be cherished on the screen after Sura. Though Sura had a lot of political references in it, Siddique has made it clear that this movie will be a pleasant family entertainer. Asin will be paired with Vijay for the third time in her career, the earlier movies being Sivakasi and Pokkiri. Vadivelu's comedy can also be expected to be a highlight of the movie.

Cinematography has been handled by Ekambaram whose work in Kandasamy was praised a lot. Music is always an USP in Vijay's movies and Vidyasagar has given just the right mix of songs for Kavalan. The 'Step Step' song has won many hearts. The film has been shot in various locations including the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) in Vellore where the blockbuster movie Endhiran was shot.

Will Vijay and Asin's pairing prove third time lucky? Let us wait and watch what this Kavalan does to mesmerize fans this Pongal.

Kaavalan all set to hit USA

The US rights of Kaavalan, the much-anticipated Vijay-starrer, have been procured by Ayngaran International and GK Media. The movie is directed by Siddique, who has also wielded the megaphone for its original version in Malayalam. Asin and Vadivelu share the screen space with Vijay in this romantic comedy.
Vidyasagar’s peppy and fresh music is a treat to the ears and the comedy element in this film is another highlight with Vadivelu and Vijay doing their best. Kaavalan is a sure treat for the family audience and this is evident from the fact that Censor Board has passed it without any cuts.
